Personal TrainER CERTIFICATE (CYQ Level 3)
PERSONAL TRAINER COURSE
The course is for those who ultimately want to become a Personal Trainer.
To enrol to this course candidates must have already achieved the appropriate Level 2 qualification and would like to progress to the next level thereby increasing their employment potential by being placed at Level 3 on the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs)
pre-requisites
To obtain the Personal Trainer Certificate you will need to hold a CYQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing and a current First Aid at Work qualification (3 day)
COURSE CONTENT
Each of the units you complete along your way to the full Personal Training Award will teach you a variety of different skills ranging from advanced training systems, conducting a fitness assessment and lifestyle reviews, being able to give precise and up to date nutritional advice, ability to design and implant training sessions in a variety of outdoor environments and the ability to design a suitable business plan.
Week 1
- Course and industry introduction
- Individual personal training session with a Personal Trainer
- Exercise techniques
- Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise – Level 2
- Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment
- Principles of exercise, fitness and health
Week 2
- Planning gym-based training sessions
- Instructing gym-based training sessions
- Monitoring training intensities
- Supporting clients who take part in exercise and training
- Fitness-specific First Aid qualification
- Introduction to Pilates
Week 3
- Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise – Level 3
- Advanced cardiovascular training systems
- Fitness testing of clients
- Goal setting with clients
- Introduction to Yoga
Week 4
- Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise – Level 3
- Advanced resistance training systems
- Advanced resistance training exercises
- Introduction to studio group classes (Spin, Step, Body Pump.)
Week 5
- Advanced core conditioning training systems
- Behavioural change of clients
- Collecting information to plan a training programme
- Advanced programme design
- Periodisation
- Introduction to water-based exercise
- Boxing technique to use with clients
Week 6
- Understanding the principles of nutrition
- Analysing nutritional information gathered from clients
- Providing nutritional advice and plans to clients
- Advanced stretching systems
- The business skills needed to be a Personal Trainer
Please note that if you already hold a Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification, then you will only have to complete and pay for the qualifications that you don’t already hold in order to gain our full Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training

Online - Our NEW online course allows you the ultimate flexibility. Study online when and wherever you want and take as long as you want to complete the qualification. As soon as you enrol you will be given a log-in to gain access to the online course and then work your way through the sections after viewing 3-dimensional graphics, video clips and reading small sections of text. After you have completed all of the units online, you can book in for your training and assessment dates.
